Anh Dao Tran-Moseman `83 has been appointed by Governor Charlie Baker as the new alumni representative to the NSCC Board of Trustees.
Anh Dao, a chemical engineer, came to the U.S. from South Vietnam as a young woman. Her father, a colonel, was a prisoner of war in North Vietnam. As a result, the entire family faced severe political consequences including very limited opportunity and denied access to advanced education. In 1985 Anh Dao, her mother and 7 siblings came to America to escape political discrimination. Immersing themselves into a new culture, learning the language and having limited resources was difficult, but Anh Dao and her family were determined and committed to achieving their dreams.
Also in 1985 Anh Dao and her siblings enrolled in NSCC’s ESL Program. She then enrolled in the Engineering Science Transfer Program where she performed well beyond the required standards, while working and tutoring other students in math, chemistry and calculus, experiences which gave her the opportunity to practice her English and communication skills.
An exceptional student with a near-perfect grade point average, Anh Dao received merit scholarships for her academic achievements and was the first recipient of the prestigious Henry Cabot Lodge Scholarship.
Anh Dao found access and opportunity at North Shore Community College. With hard work, determination, and supportive faculty and staff, Anh Dao began a journey that led to the fulfillment of her potential and her dreams. She credits the College with helping her to find her passion in chemistry and with giving her the support and assistance she needed to pursue her goals.
She continued her education at Tufts University where she was awarded additional scholarships for academic excellence and earned both her Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Chemical Engineering, graduating in 1993 with highest honors.
Now a chemical engineer, Anh Dao has advanced steadily in her career and been recognized with multiple special achievement awards. Her career has progressed from Quality Engineer to Engineering Manager, Production Manager, and to her current position as Director of Quality Operations at Sanofi-Aventis Pharmaceuticals. In the highly competitive field of chemical engineering she has been recognized with multiple special achievement awards. She was also awarded the NSCC Distinguished Alumnus Award in recognition of her outstanding achievements.
Anh Dao and her husband, Jim Moseman, have two children.

Gentile. “She is a wonderful example of the success achieved and potential realized when people are given access to education and the chance to reach for their dreams through the opportunities provided by a community college.
