This spring the NSCC Foundation awarded nearly $200,000 in scholarships to incoming and current NSCC students at a Scholarship Reception held at the Lynn Campus on May 3.
At the reception, the NSCC Alumni Association awarded four scholarships to alumni who are continuing their education at a four-year school. Awards are based on merit, academic scholarship and individual achievements. Recipients may be graduates of the current year’s graduating class or any prior year. Alumni scholarships were presented to: Kelly Alvarez for Salem State University; Martin Collins for Emerson College; Deborah Hines for Southern New Hampshire University and Jeremiah Ogah for University of Southern Maine.
In addition, this year the Alumni Association voted to extend its philanthropy by creating two $1,000 recruitment- oriented scholarships, which will be awarded to two incoming high school freshmen with the possibility of ongoing support over another two years.
Approximately 62% of students attending NSCC receive some sort of financial assistance. For many deserving students, scholarship assistance bridges a critical gap between financial aid and payments out-of-pocket.
